EHP, Vannamei Shrimp, Risk Management, BiosecurityAbstract
Vanamei shrimp farming on the northern coast of East Java is facing serious disruption due to an outbreak of Enterocytozoon hepatopenaei (EHP), which is causing stunted growth without mass mortality. This study aims to analyse the risks associated with the EHP outbreak, develop a risk matrix based on probability and severity, and formulate priority biosecurity mitigation strategies for farmers. The approaches employed were Enterprise Risk Management (ERM), ISO 31000:2018, and an epidemiological review. Risk identification yielded 15 main categories, covering biological, ecological, operational, human resources, economic, reputational and regulatory aspects. Contamination with EHP spores via non-SPF fry, the disposal of waste without decontamination, and horizontal transmission via water and vectors are classified as very high and high risk levels. Recommended mitigation measures include regulations on SPF-certified fry, the implementation of multi-layered biosecurity, the construction of integrated wastewater treatment plants, routine PCR testing, feed management, and an early growth monitoring system.
